Guest Author Alianne Donnelly

I am pleased to welcome fellow author Alianne Donnelly, here to discuss her book, Blood Moons.

Q. What inspired you to begin writing?

A: I like to say that I've always been an avid reader but the truth is that as a kid I liked making up my own stories more than reading them. I guess you could chalk it up to an overactive imagination I never grew out of :)

Q. What was the inspirations behind the characters in you most recent release Blood Moons?

A: The short answer is the old adage "Opposites attract." Dara is a dreamer. There is an innate innocence about her - she sees the world in its true form, with all its darkness and lies, but instead of becoming bitter, she buries herself in books and imagines the world how she wishes it was. Tristan, on the other hand, has lost his childish innocence a long time ago and hasn't bothered to hope or dream for anything better. The dynamics between the two turned out to be very interesting.

Q. Which character did you have the most fun writing in this story?

A: Tristan definitely captured my interest from the get go as the reluctant hero and I couldn't stop until I'd told his story. There is a world of hurt and bitterness this character carries and he's given up hope that he'll ever be forgiven. Having him be dragged kicking and screaming out of his gloom and into a relationship with Dara was a lot like trying to bathe a cat while saying, "This is for your own good." lol

Q. What originally drew you to paranormal/dark fantasy genre?

A: Blood Moons is the darkest story I have written so far. It delves into parts of human nature we don't want to admit might exist. Part of the appeal was to see how far I could take it and still be able to fight my way back to the light, the goodness I believe is inherent in all of us. It was a challenge but it made writing the eventual happy end so much sweeter.

Q. Do you have any favorite paranormal-themed films or TV shows?

A: Yes! I fell in love with Supernatural. Dean is one of my all time favrite bad boys with a good heart. But I have to say I'm glad I didn't watch it when it first came out. Just the wait I have to endure before Netflix sends me the next DVD in the series is killing me. lol I'm also a sucker for werewolf movies - LOVED Blood & Chocolate and the Underworld trilogy.

Q. What literary projects can we expect from you in the future?

A: There's a lot going on at my writing desk at the moment lol. The Blood series has two more stories coming after Blood Moons. There were side characters in this book who made me curious to see them in leading roles. I'm posting a story of as yet indeterminate length on my blog called The Beast, which is my twist on the classical fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast. And then I have a half-finished werewolf romance I'm itching to complete. I can't wait to see how that one will turn out.
